morning coffee

This past Mother's Day morning while my son slept in & my husband hunted for turkeys, I visited my niece, Angie, who works her weekends at Scooters. The idea to photograph her at work originated with my aunt, Elaine (thanks, Elaine!). It is a great coffee house with a drive through. Doggie treats sit by the window. Angie works with Kathryn most weekends. They are friends & have good chemistry working together. Angie gave me a sample of espresso & softened it with a pillow of whipped cream. The hint of chocolate was the best. I found this place to be a relaxing haven where there are books on the counter to read & an ambiance that encourages you to daydream (see last photo).

And tipping the barista is always welcome!

Happy Nurses' Week!

This week is Nurses' Week. I've been a nurse for twenty-six years. Mostly been employed part time (a true blessing). I've worked in a nursing home, on a medical floor in a hospital, on a modified ICU unit, on an adolescent psych unit (not a good fit for me), ICU, phone triage nurse, cardiac rehab & now in outpatient surgery. That is one of the many perks of being a nurse. You can change hats if you want. I didn't start out wanting to be a nurse though. I headed off to college unsure of what I wanted to do. I graduated with a bachelors degree & was working in a bookstore. I had considered nursing but thought I'd be too squeamish. I only became confident about it when my sister, Connie, got accepted into nursing school. That sibling competitiveness kicked in & I thought that if she can do it I can do it too! She did it & I did too. Pictured is a four inch porcelain figure that Connie gave me when I graduated from nursing school. I still have it. And I'm still a nurse. Thanks, Connie!

Galveston

Whenever I get to Houston to visit family, visiting Galveston is always on my list of places to go. Being that close to the beach, it would be a shame not to breath in the salty air & listen to the waves roll in. Our visit there was windy but not disappointing. Warm enough for families to be playing in the sand. This first photo shows Don walking with Carolyn.

lilacs

The lilacs were in full bloom upon our return from Texas last Friday. These are on private property next to Roberts Park. Already this morning while walking the dogs I see they are fading away. I took these photos Friday on a perfectly still evening.

Happy May Day!

I'm in Pearland, Texas this week with Don. We're visiting Carolyn. He's also here for a conference in Houston at the Astrodome. I took this photo before we left of a lilac bush on the cusp of blooming. It looks like the bushes will be heavy with blossoms this year. Happy spring!
