Krista's family

I met Krista earlier this year at a bridal shower. She had along her baby, Clayton. I told her that if she ever wanted baby pictures taken I'd be happy to take some for her. She actually took me up on my offer & this morning I met her, Clayton & Darrell (Krista's husband) at Krista's parents home. I will admit that photographing a six month old is challenging. But I am happy with several photos. Here are some of them.

Thanks, Krista!

International Quilt Museum

My friend, Kathy, recently celebrated a birthday. So to further recognize the occasion I took her to the quilt museum in town. It was the first visit for both of us so we were overdue to check it out. I made Kathy pause on the stairs so I could photograph her.

The stairs up to the exhibit rooms were a piece of art themselves.

Wendell, our volunteer tour guide, had a new quilt started. He pieces & quilts his quilts all by hand!

I love these appliqued poppies.

Here is Wendell making a point to Kathy.

The museum is located at 33rd & Holdrege here in Lincoln. Some beautiful quilts on display, many by Nebraskan quilters.

buttons

Not buttons in the way you think. I've added cyber buttons at the bottom of my blog of some of the blogs I look at regularly. They don't pay me to put them there but I thought you might enjoy checking them out. If you notice that I change the font on my pictures, you can get some of those same fonts at Kevin & Amanda's blog. They're free. The pattern we used for our Lola bags came from Made by Rae. Noodlehead always has some new sewing idea & often has free patterns. MADE also has a lot of free patterns & sewing tutorials. Be sure to check out everyone's term of use too. So check them out with the ease of clicking a "button"!

Ivy visited us Saturday evening, along with her folks Sharmin & Louie, for dinner. Then she & Don played with the Lincoln logs.

chocolate angel food cake

My sister, Nancy, brought this cake for DeLaina's baby shower & I loved it. Then she said the recipe was in her church's cookbook that she'd given me a copy of. I guess recipes can seem more appealing when someone makes it for you first. This cake was easy enough to whip up. And the batter tasted like mousse, it was that good.

I made this for company last night & sent some home with them. The leftovers are already gone.
Thanks, Nancy!

pulled pork sandwiches

I have a crockpot. It doesn't see a lot of use, but I've found a new recipe that may help it to see more activity. I'm not a great food photographer. Trust me when I say this tastes even better than it looks & the recipe is easy!

1 large yellow onion, halved & sliced
3/4 cup tomato salsa, medium heat
1/3 cup cider vinegar
1/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1 T. ground cumin
1 T. chili powder
salt
4-4 1/2 lb bone-in pork shoulder, trimmed (I used a pork loin end roast)
3 T. tomato paste

In a 4 qt slow cooker combine onion, salsa, vinegar, brown sugar, cumin, chili powder & 1/2 tsp salt. Stir together. Add the pork roast & coat with sauce. Cook 5-6 hours on high or 7-8 hours on low. I ended up cooking mine about 9 hours on low & the meat fell off the bone. Transfer the meat to a cutting board; reserve the juice. Using two forks, shred the pork. Discard the bone & fat. Put one cup of the juices & onion in a large bowl. Stir in the tomato paste & 1/2 tsp salt. Add the pulled pork & stir. Add more juice if needed. Mound the pork on toasted hamburger buns. Makes 12-16 sandwiches.
