homework

Don let me decide where we'd dine out this past Friday evening to celebrate Valentine's Day. I picked the Isle's tavern because they have great pizza & because it's in Havelock where I could also work on my homework assignment for photo class. We had to use flash outdoors once the sun was down. Except for the chilly weather conditions it was a fun assignment. Just kept changing the shutter speed . . .

Happy Birthday, Becky!

Becky (Don & Cheryl's youngest) turns 30 today! She is enjoying Mardi Gras parades in Alabama where it is warm & the snow only lasts for a day. We can only imagine that kind of weather here in Nebraska. Have a great birthday, Becky!

Happy Valentine's Day! Happy Birthday to Abby!

Hope you all celebrate this day in some manner. A card, a box of chocolates, a phone call, a kiss, a plate of cookies (thanks Kathy!). The possibilities are endless. And happy birthday to Abby, Travis' wife (Gene & Jean's daughter in law).

Happy Birthday, Jackson!

Today Jackson turns 3! He is the son of Amy (Jim & Deb's daughter) & David. A middle child sandwiched between two sisters. Thanks, Jackson, for pausing for a moment so your mom could take a photo for me! Have a terrific day!

fences

I photographed these fences up at the ranch in '08 and '09. The peeling metal fences & the yellow lichen growing on the fence posts create beautiful colors. Fences are great at framing interesting backgrounds too.

white tailed deer

A couple of years ago I accompanied Don when he went out to hunt deer. He with his rifle & me with my camera. It was an enlightening experience. Haven't been out since. Rather tedious for me. Lots of sitting & waiting for not much activity. You have to be very quiet & not move. I did not take any photographs of any animals. But Don did get a buck (he wounded it & we followed its blood trail for almost two hours before finding it & putting it out of its misery; now that was interesting). I eventually took some photos of deer but it was up by the ranch house. There's an old orchard where an apple tree still produces fruit. The deer clean up the apples & assume (wrongly) that they are safe. I was able to sneak up on this deer that weekend & get some shots with my telephoto lens & hiding behind hay bales . . .
