orange poppies

The poppies have been blooming this past week. I walk by these every time I walk the dogs. This is also where the lilacs bloom. The orange poppy is probably my favorite flower; certainly my favorite to photograph.

the ranch

Don's been going to the ranch on weekends without me, but he brought back this photo to remind me how beautiful it is there this time of year.

morels

Don went turkey hunting again this past weekend. No turkey but he did find morel mushrooms. He found them a bit later this year than he normally does. In fact he thinks the cattle out in the pastures are enjoying them too. Fortunately they left a few for us.

The extra mushrooms he put in the dehydrator to dry.

Alex graduates.

Today my nephew, Alex, graduates from high school. Last evening his parents, Dale & Colleen, hosted a party for him in their backyard. I got to visit with Alex a few minutes about his future plans. He is always so polite & easy to talk to. And he let me take a picture of him with his folks . . .

. . . and his grandfather (my Dad).

I made a pit stop into the house & found Lola & Chelsey visiting in the kitchen. Jacey (Alex's niece) was busy teething on a plastic cup.

And Lola's daughter, DeLaina, appeared to be teething on Chelsey's sweater.

Congratulations, Alex!

waking up the beds

This morning I volunteered to help plant annuals at the Sunken Gardens here in Lincoln. It was my first time helping out & it was very enjoyable despite the chilly weather. Lots of volunteers made short work of the job to be done. The theme this year is "somewhere over the rainbow". Time (and warmer, sunnier weather) will unfold the rainbow of colors.

Yesterday, Don finally got our own garden planted. A later start than we've had in years past.
