After living in our present home for the last 10 years & walking the same path almost daily with the dogs, I finally noticed that one of our neighbors has a Buckeye tree. So this fall I picked up a few nuts that had fallen to the ground. Once the shell falls off they are about the size of a walnut & have a smooth finish. Their color & sheen is beautiful. I don't think these nuts are edible; some people drill holes in them to make necklaces. So in case you never knew that the Ohio State Buckeyes got their name from a tree . . . now you know!
